It's Saturday morning and it's off to a good start overall. I Woke up at my normal time, got dressed and hopped in my truck. I've recently downloaded audible so I was able to listen to one of my favorite books on the way in to work. As part of my normal routine, I stopped at my local Wawa to grab a cup of my favorite coffee - hazelnut. The sun was bright and shining, the air was crisp and clean - it also seemed like everyone knew how to drive today. Made it in to work with my nice hot cup of coffee to and an attitude to take on the world! We started to get our materials ready for the job today but, unfortunately for me, I had placed my coffee in a bad spot. We needed to break out our heavy duty vice and when I threw it on the table it knocked my cup of coffee over and it spilled everywhere. So, now I have have to really get up and going on my own energy without the help of my caffeine. On the bright side, we were able to get done everything that we needed for the job. Now we have everything ready, we're finishing getting the truck all loaded up and the off to the races! Not actual races obviously but, more of a race to keep all of our customers happy! If you see us on the road today give us a wave or if you need some help stop and ask! We would be happy to solve whatever problems you might be having! So, if you need a new storefront, glass repair, door repair, door replacement, automatic doors and service, or even a bulletproof enclosure, give JD Glass & Door a call at 215-332-3000! So much for spring!

Just when we thought we were getting ready for spring, Mother Nature goes and pulls as fast one on us! If I’m honest, this first day of spring has been a little tough. After a weekend out of town I had to come back to some personal family issues. Never really fun but it’s incredibly important to deal with them before they get out of hand. I’ve seen some people hold grudges that last nearly a lifetime, then when asked about it, it’s one of the biggest regrets they’ve ever had! Once you’re able to take a step back to breathe and really evaluate the situation rather than focusing on what’s driving you crazy, can you really start to help yourself feel better. I think some people can get through it by talking with someone but, others need the quite time alone to reflect? Have you been holding any grudges lately? Taken time to truly consider how and why the other person is feeling the way they do? There’s not enough time in the day to waste it on ill feelings towards one another. And if it’s someone that shouldn’t be around you in the first place, don’t be afraid to cut ties. Not everyone is a perfect match just as not every friend is exactly as you thought they were. We constantly learn, grow, and adapt as we progress through life. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if we outgrow certain friends around us. Maybe I’m lucky, ignorant, selfish - whatever you want to call it - but I reached a point where I just do what I need to do to make me happy. I’m not out here looking for happiness or misery in anyone but myself. In turn, I’ve been more friendly to the people on the street and nicer to acquaintances. At the same time, I’ve begun to have barriers drawn between myself and those closest to me. Am I wrong for wanting to grow as a person and challenge myself? Maybe. Am I a better person overall for doing those same things? Definitely. At the end of the day just do what makes you happy regardless of how you feel or how others might feel about what you’re doing. They’re all your feelings and nobody else is going to feel how you feel, so, you might as well be happy about the way you feel. |
Glass types
Posted on March 15, 2018 at 8:29 PM |
![]() |
There are a few different types of glass for general purposes; annealed, tempered, and laminated. Depending on your situation you’ll be installing one of the types in your store or home. If you’re in need of replacement door glass you’re going to either need tempered or laminated safety glass - or polycarbonate but we’ll cover that later -for code reasons in Philadelphia. The difference with tempered safety glass is that when it breaks, it shatters into a million diamond like pieces. While all glass can be dangerous, the reason this is safer is because it eliminates the risk of you getting sliced open by a giant chunk of glass. Tempered glass breaks in the same way as the side windows of your car. Laminated safety glass does not explode in the same way as tempered. Laminated glass for standard door purposes is two pieces of 1/8” annealed Glass with a laminated film in between the two. This breaks in the same way as the windshield. For door purposes, this is a good choice because if your glass breaks in the middle of the night, the glass will stay in tact still in the door where tempered breaks to the ground and leaves your store open and vulnerable. Annealed Glass is the most dangerous which breaks in large chunks. This is an illegal option for door because of the risks of being seriously injured by large shards of broken glass. So if you need tempered glass, laminated glass or plate glass let us know. Along with glass replacement, we install new storefronts, automatic doors, bullet resistant enclosures, door repairs and service, give JD Glass & Door a call at 215-332-3000! Just finished up our meeting with Tormax automatics and we're expecting to install our first set of automatic doors in two weeks. With the increase in population in the city it's important for companies to switch over to automatics to avoid the headaches you get with manual doors. With so much activity in the city, manual doors are looking like they'll be a thing of the past. If you're in a high activity store and you're having issues with your doors or considering new ones, it might make more sense for you to check out the wide variety of automatic doors. Even if you're not looking for automatics, we can always help out with manual doors too! Regardless of the application you're looking for, we'll be there to walk you through the process and what will best fit your needs. Aside from automatic and manual doors, we also service all types of doors, install new replacement glass, fabricate our own insulated glass and have heavy glass lifting capabilities. So, if you're in the market for anything of that nature, give JD Glass & Door at 215-330-3000. JD Glass & Door - "Providing peace of mind" |
Time Change

The spring forward time change is always brutal! One minute you're sitting there and the next, it's an hour later....literally! I woke up at nine yesterday morning and I could never quite get into the swing of the day. I tried to take a nap but nothing could help. Took a nice hot shower for a while and still nothing. Went out to grab a bite to eat, which helped out but by the time I got back home I was wide awake and couldn't get to sleep until midnight. On top of going to sleep so late, I also ended up falling asleep on my couch. Not the ideal place when you're trying to readjust to the change. Luckily the spring forward was on a weekend so you have at least one day where you can take the full day to try to get your body acclimated to the changes, I know it helped me out a bunch. But time change or no time change, JD Glass & Door is always on time! If you're looking for a new storefront, glass replacement, door repair or just some general service give us a call at 215-332-3000! JD Glass & Door - "Provding peace of mind" |
Sunny Saturday

It's a nice, crisp sunny Saturday this morning! Although it's a little chilly, the warmth of the sun feels very nice on my face. Hopefully it's warm enough to get some of this snow melted away for good. I'm looking forward to the nice Spring weather coming up. Being able to go out in a tshirt or a nice light hoodie is just my speed! Seeing all the people out and about after a long winter hibernation. Faces lit up as if they have been locked away for for years, finally being able to experience fresh air again. The children playing at the playground making new friends with every trip down the slide or push on the swing. The vibrant colors of the newly blossomed flowers. Spring time really is the ultimate season. You get the absolute best of everything. Happy people, new life, rejuvination after months of early nights and cold, depressing weather. Spring time certainly deserves our best, so make sure you'll be willing to give your best when the time comes and the weather finally breaks! You won't owe it to anybody but yourself! So, when you call us for a new storefront, glass repair, or door repair, you'll defintely be seeing a friendly face when I show up to introduce myself! JD Glass & Door - "Providing peace of mind" |

If I'm completely honest, I've never been a huge fan of Carl in "The Walking Dead". He always struck me as a whiney little brat. With the constant complaining and always getting himself into trouble, it was like he was trying to get eaten by the walkers. Then, the fact that he should've been gone a while ago from the gunshot didn't make his cause much better. Then he goes and gets bit by the stupid walkers eight seasons in. I think it's a terrible way to send him out on a show where he played an integral role. I personally think he should've been killed by Simon. Give him the decency to go down fighting but I guess that would nullify everything that he stood for in the show, in wanting to bring peace between the two groups. Now, we have Rick saying "I'm gonna kill you" to Neagan. Dude, you've been saying that forever and he's done nothing but ravage your entire life. Maybe you should take a break and see what their group is all about. Obviously, they have a large group of dedicated people willing to fight for their safety. Don't you think it might be a good idea to join forces and have even more people? What's the difference if your group name is "The Saviors". I'm all for never giving up but sometimes you should really just take a step back and make sure the only thing your fighting for insn't just your pride. Now that Carls' gone, that's the only thing he's fighting for at this point. There's no reason to build a group at this point, so, either join their group or go out and live in the wilderness with Michonne for the rest of time. This is just my opinion on the matter. Carl deserved better and that's the bottom line. And that's coming from a non-Carl fan. So, TWD asaide, if you need a new storefront, glass repair, door repair or anything along those lines give JD Glass & Door a call at 215-332-3000 JD Glass & Door -"Providing peace of mind" |
Snow Storm 2018 II

So, as I stood in line at Chipotle, I was certian that the storm was over before it began.. I looked out the window as the rain drops were beginning to stop as I was waiting to place my order. After the gentleman in front of me ordered about fifty things, it was finally my turn to place my order and focus on lunch instead of the rain drops outside. Going over my order with the brand new worker at chipotle was a little bit of an ordeal but it was fine because they had just opened. I was getting chicken quesadillas for my son and dad, while I was getting a burrito bowl. After finding the guac because the container on the line was empty, I was finally able to wrap up my order. As I turn to walk out of the door, I realize I can barely see my truck. It took a whopping five minutes to go from 0-100 real quick (as Drake would say). So, I get back and we eat lunch quickly and get ready to head home so we didn't get stuck. The roads were really bad and it seems like people love to stay out on the roads when they don't have the proper vehicle to get through the snow. After about 35 minutes we finally made it home. We went inside and Brucie took a nap for a while. As he was sleeping I kept watching all of the people drive into the unplowed parking lot of rite aid where it seemed like every person in a regular car would get stuck. Time and time again, car after car, people were constantly stuck. Luckily a few of them had shovels and were able to dig themselves out. This storm ended up being worse than I had originally thought it was going to be. Luckily, the direction the snow was blowing in allowed my sidewalk to remain mostly clear. We also had a plow truck drive through our allyway so that also didn'e have to be shoveled. All in all I would say that I personally got pretty lucky. I know many people didn't have the same fortune that I was able to get. Hopefully everyone was able to stay safe and not have too much to deal with. Snow aside, if you need a new storefront, glass repair, or door repair give JD Glass & Door a call at 215-332-3000! JD Glass & Door - "Providing peace of mind" |
Snow Storm 2018
Posted on March 7, 2018 at 9:50 AM |
![]() |
After an extremely mild winter, it seem'd like our first real snow storm is hitting today. When I woke up I thought we were going to get away free and clear because it was only raining. Once I made it to the shop I was still feeling the same way. But, now that it's getting a little later, it looks liike we might be in for it. The snow flakes which are the size of a silver dollar are falling as if it were a downpour. The wind is blowing all of the flakes sideways and becuase the snow is so wet, it's sticking all over my truck. Pretty soon I figure I'll step outside just to start my truck to let everything defrost a bit. Luckily I have a snow scraper with me so I'll be able to brush all of the excess off. Hopfully, people are smart enough to stay indoors today. There's nothing so important that it can't wait a day. This slush is clearly building up on the roads from what I see so, sliding when trying to stop will likely be an issue for most people. Be sure to give yourself enough space to stop in the sceanrio that you do actually slide. A golden rule you can always follow is leave one car length between you and the car ahead for every 10Mph you're going. So, if you're going 30Mph be sure to leave at least 3 car lengths of space between you and the car ahead. Maybe we can get lucky and the temperature will pick up a few degrees and this will all turn to rain! If not, we'll be back at it tomorrow to install new storefronts, schedule glass repairs, and repair door issues. Give JD Glass & Door a call if you need anything at 215-332-3000.
