As it turns out, the job that we just finished Sunday at the bank are now in need of automatic doors to replace the manual exterior pair. We are AAADM certified and we install Tormax brand automatic doors. For this project in particular we’ll be installing a single slide automatic door. Once complete I’ll put before and after pictures on our Instagram page. We update our Instagram on a regular basis so you can always take a peek at current and previous projects if you’ve never worked with us before. We’ve done it all from Door closers to automatic door installation and service to multi story buildings - without a doubt we have the solution to what you’re looking for. Tormax is a great quality brand name that you can put your trust in! With a wide variety of products involving auto, automatic applications, we’ll be able to get you squared away with whatever you need. Don’t waste time and money calling these other companies that leave your job only halfway finished. When you call JD Glass & Door we can incorporate automatic doors with our storefront material to give you a seamless transition instead of having giant voids all around the perimeter of your automatic door frame. So, give JD Glass & Door a call for your new installation at 215-332-3000, that way you can hang up the phone with confidence knowing that the job is going to be completely finished and correct the first time without any surprises. |
Movie suggestions

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a movie and I definitely need some suggestions. I honestly can’t even remember what the last movie I saw was. How pathetic is that, honestly. As a grown adult I can virtually watch movies whenever the hell I want but obviously my time is spent blogging about movie suggestions rather than dragging my ass to whichever movie theater I like the most to see the newest movie. The other side to this story is that I haven’t even seen anything interesting come out in a while. I think all movies are turning into remakes or just horrible concepts ( avengers movies aside). The last stand out movie I’ve seen at the movies might of been either inception or shutter island (definitely have a man crush on Leo, he’s a stud). Actually mow that I think about it, the new Star Wars was the most recent movie I’ve seen but it’s not the new “last Jedi” one. I’m starting to hear bad things about that one though. I really hope it didn’t suck because I was totally looking forward to checking it out. Either way, something has to give with all of these subpar movies coming out. There are a ton of talented people out there wasting their skills on useless topics when they should be out there making some kick ass movies! Hopefully Hollywood gets their shit together and starts pumping out some a+ movies. In the meantime, give me some suggestions on a few movies you really enjoyed recently. |
Sunday installation

Woke up at 5:30 and brewed myself a pot of coffee. I love working on Sundays because even though I’m working, it’s still a slow paced type of day like sundays are supposed to be. Like usual, I enjoyed a few cups of joe and got myself ready to take on the day. After getting dressed I hopped in the car and was on my way to the shop. Once I arrived I grabbed myself a yogurt and had some breakfast before backing the truck out and getting ready to hit the road again to head to the city. The other great thing about Sunday work is that the highways are wide open. I literally wish everyday was a Sunday and traffic was that easy. Unfortunately for me I have to deal with B.S. Philadelphia traffic every day. So, we pull up to the job and get our area set up. We started dismantling the doors and it went pretty smooth. We unexpectedly had to break an existing piece of glass out but that also went smooth. The door frame popped right in and it was a snug fit. We barely had to shim anything! We got it all mounted and hung the doors, the lines were perfect all around! Like with most things that we do, perfection is what we strive for. And to be honest, perfection is what was delivered today. We cleaned up and it was a smooth ride back to the shop, locked up then headed home. Great day all around! So give us a call the next time you need automatic doors, a new storefront, glass repair or door repairs at 215-332-3000! |

Every year one of our employees goes away with his family for a week. Every year that he goes away we tend to get slammed with work; this year is no exception haha. With over 10 separate jobs scheduled for the week, it’s a miracle we’ve been able to stay the course. That’s the plus side of only having top notch people within our company, everyone is able to pick up the slack. That’s the way it should be though, just like a sports team; when someone goes down, the team picks it up. The reason I believe we’re so successful is because rather than barking orders down the line, we treat everyone as equals and hold each other accountable for our actions. In my experience, leadership that talks down to their employees tend to receive poor quality work. Not that I’m a believer in the participation trophy type of deal but when you’re honest and hold people accountable without talking down to them you get so much more. It’s definitely understandable why some people might find it difficult but once you truly learn how to handle that type of interaction you can get incredible results. There are a ton of great books on leadership and communication that can help you achieve your desired goals for effective communication skills. Once you learn a few techniques and different aspects of the psychology behind those techniques, it all starts to come together. |

Awesome win by Villanova last night! Unfortunately for me I fell asleep within the final five minutes haha. They started out a little rough but they managed to pull it together halfway through the first half and never looked back. Like most of their games through the tournament, they look head and shoulders above their competition. Their composure was incredible - especially for being young kids. It’s amazing what can happen when you have a group of people buy into something that’s bigger than the individuals want or needs. That team was playing for each other and had fun while doing it. At the end of the day it’s just a game and that’s how they approached it. It definitely helped to keep the pressure of the moment down which allowed them to get back on track through the first half. Jay Wright has been nothing short of phenomenal! It’s amaz what he’s been able to turn that program into. It’s always fun to see a local guy grow to be such a big name - and well deserved. I’m sure this won’t be his last one, either. With the way they’re going, I wouldn’t be surprised if they could pull off a repeat! Now that college basketball is over I’ll shit my focus over to the flyers who look to be headed into the postseason along with the sixers. It’s definitely been a good year to be a philly sports fan! But it’s also a good time to be a store owner in Philadelphia! Because if you’re looking for a way to improve your facade, give JD Glass & Door a call at 215-332-3000! We can provide new storefronts, automatic doors, bullet proof enclosures, door service and glass repairs. Don’t forget to ask about financing! |
Easter Sunday

So, my Easter Sunday started off with me waking up at 8:30 - sleeping in - to get ready to go pick up my son. I brushed my teeth and got dressed and figured I would run across the street to rite aid to get all of the stuff for his Easter basket and to do a little Easter egg hunt for him. I’m walking out of rite aid and one of my biggest fears as I’m walking up to my truck is seeing the side of my truck smashed up (I park on the street). My biggest fear became my reality. As the curses were flying from my mouth like raindrops falling from the sky, I had to somehow find a way to track down who did it. I decided to run back into rite aid since they have a camera outside their building and what does the manager tell me - “oh, that doesn’t work”. I was pissed and knew that it was total bullshit. I mean, what type of pharmacy has broken cameras? There was no sense in arguing with the guy though. So, I walk back out to put my stuff in my truck and a guy approached me and says “is that your truck?” I’m thinking “of course it’s my truck jackass, can’t you see me cursing about it over here”. Obviously that would’ve been super rude so I kept my cool. It ended up being indirectly my lucky day; it was actually the guy who hit my truck. Not only was he a super nice dude, by the time I realized my truck was hit he had already filed the police report and made the insurance claim. We also have the same insurance company too to make the process a little easier. Obviously it’s never ideal to have your vehicle hit or be in an accident but in his particular instance, I couldn’t have been luckier. Not only did he take care of all of those things but the major plus was the fact my son wasn’t in the car, I wasn’t in the car, the other driver didn’t get hurt and all in all it was nothing more than an inconvenience. Obviously I would rather have my truck over the Nissan Sentra that the rental company gave me but it is what it is. I couldn’t be mad because it was an “accident”. Nobody crashes into you on purpose so what’s the point in getting super upset about it. Shit happens and we move on. It’s always a good day when nobody gets hurt and I’ll be able to replace the truck soon enough. After that we grabbed some dinner at my moms and brucie had a ton of fun. He loves going over to his grand moms to play. I’ve never seen a kid with so much energy as when he goes there haha. He slept over there since I was without a car and couldn’t take him to school the next day while I went to go grab my rental car. Now the wait is on until I find out the situation with my truck. Hopefully it’s not totaled! |

Today was definitely a kick ass day! We’re moving wayyyy in the right direction as a company right now and I’m super excited! We got our first delivery that we’ve been waiting on and it’s saved us a ton of money! Not to mention all of the time we’re saving because of it. Things have been going really well and it makes me excited to see what the future holds for us. We have a bunch of jobs scheduled with no end in sight and everything is operating smooth. Our new employee is coming along really well and is going to be a huge help as we start to shift our focus. Sometimes it’s amazing to think what one person can do to alleviate a lot of stress and time wasted. Pretty soon I see JD Glass & Door being the most efficient company in the industry! Like most things in life, it’s going to take a little bit of time but it’s definitely going to be worth it! It’s crazy to think about all of the work that’s going on in Philadelphia these days. All of our manufacturers are swamped, all of the glass shops are busy, people are working. There’s so much happening that’s beneficial to the entire city right now! Home values are up, there’s an influx of residents, people trying and succeeding at opening their own businesses. Philadelphia is such an awesome place to live with a ton to offer! I couldn’t be happier to live and work in a city with so much good stuff going on! If you’re one of these business owners and in need of a new storefront, automatic doors, glass repairs, door repairs and service, and everything in between give JD Glass & Door a call at 215-332-3000! Coming up on the end of March and we have a lot of big things happening so far this year! We’re looking forward to another important delivery tomorrow that is going to help us grow our business quite a bit! Not to mention the other deliveries we’ve had earlier this month! We’re trying hard to put all of our focus on doing things that make the most sense for our clients. Time and time again we hear all sorts of stories about how you guys have had bad experiences dealing with other companies just to have to call us to fix the problem properly. Call me old fashioned but I think things need to be done right the FIRST time! The older I get the more I realize that most people are just looking for a shortcut - and not necessarily only in the glass business. Construction in general seems to be getting flooded with a bunch of hacks. Maybe I’m just having a bad run of poor quality work, maybe I didn’t notice it as much because I was younger, or, maybe that’s just the way most people are. Either way, I try to only worry about what I do because that’s all I can control. So, when I’m on the job you can know you’re getting quality work from me and my team. So, if you’re in the market for a new storefront, automatic doors, door service, glass repairs, door repairs, heavy glass lifting, oversized glass, and anything in between, give JD Glass & Door a call at 215-332-3000! Roller hockey

Now that the weather will be starting to break, I can’t wait to start taking Brucie out to play hockey. With him coming up on his third birthday, he’s stable on his feet and looking for his next challenge. He has been into playing hockey for a while now but it’s time to get him used to skating. It makes me excited because it’s something we can do together forever - as long as he likes it. With the hockey rink right down the street, we’ll be stopping there everyday after daycare and school! Even now he gets excited when I ask him to play hockey or even watch it on tv! He’s already turning into a little sports fanatic! After we get him used to the roller skates we’ll get him on he ice. There’s a lot of good lessons to be learned by playing sports. The perseverance, values, sportsmanship. The bonds built laying it all on the line are life lasting. I watched a video of a little kid in the locker room telling the boys how much they all meant to him and it was incredible! This kid couldn’t have been more than 10 but it was clear that this kid really valued and understood what was going on around him and within the team. He was the definition of a leader even at such a young age. These are just a few things that I hope to instill in my son as he grows up. It might not necessarily be hockey or sports in general but I want him to know how to be a good person overall. I just think sports are a good start to learn those lessons. So, over the next lifetime I’ll be watching him grow and develop, learning lessons through his own failures, my guidance, and everything he learns from other people and the choices he makes. Sports and kids aside, if you’re in the market for a new storefront, automatic doors, glass repairs, door service and anything in between, give JD Glass & Door a call at 215-332-3000! |
Villanova

Talk about a solid win yesterday! To be honest I'm not much of a NCAA fan but it's always fun watching the tail end of the march madness tournament. From the sweet 16 on it starts to get pretty exciting! you get to see some upsets, some strong matchups and, everything in between. It was pretty impressive that Texas Tech was able to hold a team that averages 87 pts to 71 for the game. The whole team had a solid outing and Paschall finished with the double double. It definitely wasn't the prettiest win but they got it done and that's all that matters! Now, we wait until Saturday night to catch the next game against a great opponent and #1 seed Kansas. They're coming off a hard fought win against Duke that ended up going extra qtrs. It'll be interesting to see how these two teams end up stacking up against one another. Two #1 seeds duking it out for the right to play for the title. For Villanova, this is possibly their 4th time in the final four in the last 10 years (not positive). Either way, it's stacking up to be a fun game to watch. If you need a new storefront, automatic doors, a new door leaf, steel doors, glass repairs, and even door service, we have you covered!
